Below are two activities for children that attend, to engage them while the meal is being prepared that I thought were interesting enough to pass on.
"What Are You Thankful For" is via the site Spoonful.

Cut large 4s from paper and place one on each person's plate. Just before dinner, write the things you are thankful for on your cutouts, then take turns sharing the lists.
A lot of us love gumdrops and have them in abundance during this time of year, so here is an activity that will put some of those sticky treats to use via Events To Celebrate. You can even have the older kids supervise the younger ones.
You need small/large gumdrops and toothpicks.
Take three small gumdrops to make the feet and stick full length toothpicks in them, once done attach those to the larger gumdrop in a tripod formation. Now you have the feet and body of the turkey.
Break a toothpick in ½ and insert a small gumdrop, which will act as the head and attach to the front of the larger gumdrop (the turkey body).
Use about four ½ size toothpicks and insert small gumdrops which will act as the feathers and insert those in the back of the larger gumdrop (the turkey body).
BAM! You have gumdrop turkeys….
